Spot and Acne Treatment

WHAT IS A SPOT?

Pigmentation refers to the process by which the body produces color on the skin using substances. Skin spots occur due to a disturbance in substances that give color to the skin. Excessive activation of melanocytes results in varying levels of melanin secretion, causing changes in skin color.

Skin discoloration predominantly appears on areas chronically exposed to the sun, such as the face, neckline, and backs of hands, primarily affecting individuals with darker skin tones. Discoloration may involve the topmost layer of the skin or the subcutaneous layer. While most skin discolorations are purely cosmetic issues, some carry the risk of developing into cancer.

The fundamental principle in spot treatment is adequate protection from the sun. Once this is ensured, suitable treatment options are available depending on the type of discoloration.

WHAT IS ACNE?

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions in society. It involves inflammation of the skin's oil glands. The hair follicles and pores (openings) on the skin are associated with sebaceous glands. These glands produce sebum, which is released onto the skin's surface through the glands' channels. If there is excessive sebum production or if the channels are blocked due to excessive epithelial production, the bacterium known as Propionibacterium acnes can cause inflammation, leading to acne.

Acne lesions are often prevalent on areas with abundant oil glands and sebum production, such as the face, neck, back, and chest. Acne can be a significant source of stress and may result in permanent scars.
